  5. der Weyden was his pupil. His outstanding
  6. work is Merode altarpiece, about 1425
  7. (Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York), which
  8. shows a distinctly naturalistic style, with a
  9. new subtlety in modelling and a grasp of
  10. pictorial space.
